Long night with a Mountain Time Zone doubleheader.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs split a doubleheader with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Rockies), winning the first game 7-3 and dropping the second one 7-6.
In the first game, Kyle Hendricks pitched the first six innings and got his ninth win. He gave up a two-run home run in the third inning, but those were the only two runs he allowed. Hendricks gave up seven hits. He walked two (one intentional) and struck out four.
The top two hitters in the lineup did most of the damage in game one. Second baseman Arismendy Alcantara hit leadoff and was 2 for 3 with a double and his ninth home run of the season. It was a solo home run in the seventh inning. Alcantara scored twice and had two RBI.
Center fielder Ryan Kalish was in the two hole and went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. He scored once.
First baseman Chris Valaika was 2 for 4 with a double. He scored one run and had one RBI.
In the top of the sixth inning, Kris Bryant singled, his first non-home run hit for Iowa. Bryant was 1 for 2 with two walks.
In the second game, starter Carlos Pimentel got clobbered for five runs on five hits in only two innings. One of those five hits was a two-run home run in the first inning. Pimentel walked three and struck out only one.
Arodys Vizcaino did pitch a scoreless sixth inning, although he allowed two baserunner by a single and a hit batsman.
In game two, shortstop Javier Baez went 3 for 4 with two doubles. He scored two runs and had one RBI.
Josh Vitters went 2 for 3 and scored a run. Logan Watkins was 2 for 4 with two RBI and one run scored.
Manny Ramirez made his Cubs debut in game two. He was 0 for 4 and reached on an error.
Bryant was 1 for 4 with a double in the nightcap. Where did all the power go?
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies shut out the Jackson Generals (Mariners), 4-0.
Starter Corey Black won his first game since April by tossing 5.1 scoreless innings. Black allowed six hits. He walked two and struck out three.
Hunter Cervenka retired all six batters he faced. He struck out one.
Tennessee scored all four runs in the third inning when he first five batters of the inning had hits.
Second baseman Stephen Bruno was 2 for 5 and scored a run. Third baseman Christian Villanueva went 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Right fielder Rubi Silva was 2 for 4 and shortstop Elliot Soto was also 2 for 4 and he scored a run.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs fell to the Dunedin Blue Jays, 5-3.
Starter Justin Amlung pitched five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two.
Michael Jensen pitched the top of the ninth inning and got the loss when he gave up two unearned runs on two singles, a hit batsman and an error by shortstop Marco Hernandez. Jensen struck out two.
Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. However, he did make two errors.
Kane County Cougars
The Kane County Cougars skinned the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 5-0.
A really strong start for Daury Torrez, who went eight innings and allowed just four hits. He struck out seven and didn't walk anyone.
DH Kyle Schwarber was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored two runs and knocked one home.
Catcher Ben Carhart was also 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He also had one RBI, but he only scored one run.
First baseman Jacob Rogers was 2 for 3 (both singles) and a walk. He had one RBI and one run scored.
Boise Hawks
The Boise Hawks were stomped on by the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks), 10-0.

Erick Leal allowed seven runs on six hits over 2.2 innings. But only four of the seven runs were earned thanks to two errors in a five-run third inning. Leal walked two and struck out one.
Center fielder Rashad Crawford was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. DH Justin Marra was 2 for 3 with a double.
AZL Cubs
Jorge Soler DH'd in this game and homered. He was 1 for 2 with two walks.
Third-round pick Mark Zagunis made his professional debut and was 1 for 3 with a walk.
