Cubs Make Flurry Of Roster Moves: Hector Rondon Activated, Jose Veras DFAd, Welington Castillo To DL, Eli Whiteside Recalled

It's been a busy day in the Cubs front office.

We knew a roster move was coming to reactivate Hector Rondon from the paternity list. But I don't think any of you were expecting this:

Goodbye, Jose Veras. Congratulations to Theo and Jed for admitting the signing was a mistake.

Now, the other move is a bit more serious, as losing Welington Castillo to the disabled list is a big blow to the offense. Neither John Baker nor Eli Whiteside can hit at all, so there will be a black hole at catcher offensively until Castillo returns. Both Baker and Whiteside are decent, not great, defensively. Whiteside takes Veras' place on the 40-man roster. I don't have an official announcement yet, but Whiteside wore No. 32 in spring training and that number isn't taken, so he'll likely wear it (I'll tweet when I know for sure).

The Cubs could still really use another bench player, because with two catchers who can't hit, it would be good to have someone on the bench who can.
