Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 56

The bullpen comes through once again, throwing four more scoreless innings to seal a second consecutive one-run win.

How to make the Hero list in an unlikely way.

Rest in peace, Popeye. And thank you for the memories of 1989.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Starlin Castro (.349). Made up for his error in the first with a big night at the plate.
  • Hero - Anthony Rizzo (.228). One of the wonderful quirks of WPA: Rizzo makes the second step on the podium thanks in large part to scoring on the Jeurys Familia wild pitch.
  • Sidekick - Hector Rondon (.158). Capped a great night by the bullpen with his seventh save of the year.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Big Goat - John Baker (-.196). The double play off of the leg of Daisuke Matsuzaka was the critical blow on his 0-for-4 night.
  • Goat - Edwin Jackson (-.187). Ten baserunners in five innings, and still managed to get the win.
  • Kid - Nate Schierholtz (-.116). Three RISP opportunities and walked away with only an RBI groundout.
