Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 60

Rough day for the bullpen, as they surrender two different leads and give the Cubs a 5-1 homestand.

The icing on the cake, as served up by Pedro Strop.

As Al noted in his recap, all good things must end sometime; apparently today was that day for the Cubs.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Jake Arrieta (.350). Perhaps the most impressive part of his outing was that he didn't walk anybody.
  • Hero - Luis Valbuena (.278). Patience paid off huge in the seventh.
  • Sidekick Nate Schierholtz (.098). The month of June continues to be good to him.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Big Goat - Pedro Strop (-.457). The defense is slightly to blame, but the defense didn't throw the wild pitch to surrender the tie, nor did it load the bases and give up the sacrifice fly to surrender the lead.
  • Goat - Brian Schlitter (-.238). The first runs he has allowed since May 10, spanning 13 appearances.
  • Kid - Anthony Rizzo (-.153). Not enough magic left in the bat to come through one more time.

Arrieta gets his first Superhero of the year, but the bullpen comes up at the top of the Goats to wash it out.
