Two Cubs farm teams trailed 7-1 in the sixth inning and both came back and won tonight. Although it took a long time for Daytona to do it.
This may have been the most exciting night this year for the Cubs minor league system.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs derailed the Round Rock Express (Rangers), 4-1.
In another day, the talk of this game would be the dominating pitching performance of starter Tsuyoshi Wada. Wada pitched six innings and allowed one run on three hits, with two of the hits being the first two batters he faced. (The run came in the first inning as well.) Wada struck out ten batters and walked only one.
Blake Parker struck out all three batters he faced to get his 19th save.
Third baseman Kris Bryant broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run, his 33rd of the season and 11th with Iowa. Bryant was 2 for 4.
In the fifth inning, second baseman Javier Baez hit a solo home run, his 16th on the year. Baez went 2 for 5 and scored twice.
Right fielder Matt Szczur was 2 for 5 and stole two bases. First baseman Lars Anderson was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Tennessee Smokies
Rained out in Huntsville. Some of the team went bowling.
Daytona Cubs
A Rock Shoulders grand slam in the bottom of the 17th inning gave Daytona an 11-7 win over the Ft. Myers Miracle (Twins).
Starting pitcher Rob Zastryzny put Daytona in a hole when he allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings. Zastryzny walked four and struck out six.
Justin Amlung pitched the next four inning and gave up two runs on five hits over four innings. Both of those runs came in the sixth inning and then he shut down the Miracle for the next four. In fact,
Going to extra innings, Zack Godley pitched the tenth and eleventh, giving up two hits. He struck out four and walked one.
Stephen Perakslis pitched out of trouble a lot in his four innings, but he kept the Miracle off the board. Perakslis allowed five hits and one walk and struck out two.
Yao-Lin Wang loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the 17th inning, but then struck out the next three batters to keep the game tied. Wang pitched two innings and gave up three hits. He struck out four and didn't walk anyone.
Rock Shoulders entered the game in the 11th inning when Albert Almora was ejected after striking out. The grand slam was his eighth home run of the season. He was 1 for 3.
Almora was 2 for 5 with a double and a walk before being ejected. He scored two runs.
Catcher Kyle Schwarber hit a solo home run in the eighth inning. It was his first Daytona home run and his ninth of the year. Schwarber was 2 for 5 with two walks. He scored two runs.
DH Willson Contreras completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth when he led off the inning with his second home run of the season. Contreras was 2 for 7 with a walk and two runs scored.
Billy McKinney went 2 for 6 with two walks. He scored once and had a two-run single in the seventh inning.
Second baseman Gioskar Amaya went 3 for 6 with a walk and an RBI. Third baseman Wes Darvill 2 for 8 with one run scored and one RBI.
Kane County Cougars
The Kane County Cougars put the screws to the Lansing Lugnuts (Blue Jays), 10-1.
Starting pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng dominated the Lugnuts for six scoreless innings. He retired the first 14 batters he faced before allowing a single, the only hit he allowed. Tseng struck out three and walked one.
Kyuji Fujikawa allowed an unearned run on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two and didn't walk anyone.
Third baseman Jeimer Candelario opened the scoring when he hit a solo home run in the second inning. It was Candelario's ninth home run of the season and fourth for Kane County. He was 2 for 5.
Catcher Cael Brockmeyer hit a three-run home run in the third inning, his fourth of the season. Brockmeyer had a big game, going 3 for 4 with a sacrifice fly and four overall RBI.
Right fielder Shawon Dunston went 3 for 4 with a double and a sacrifice fly. He scored three times and had two runs batted in.
Left fielder Trey Martin was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. He scored two runs. Center fielder Jacob Hannemann went 2 for 5 with one run scored.

Boise Hawks
The Boise Hawks trailed the Spokane Indians (Rangers) 7-1 in the sixth inning, but came back to stun the Indians, 10-7.
Trevor Graham had a rough start. He exited after the first three runners of the third inning reached against him. All three of them would score. Graham pitched 2+ innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits. Graham walked two and struck out one.
Francisco Carrillo pitched three scoreless innings of relief and got the win after Boise scored five runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh. Carrillo allowed two hits. He struck out three and walked no one.
Shortstop Jason Vosler hit a two-run triple in that four-run seventh inning. Vosler was 2 for 4.
Second baseman Chesny Young went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Third baseman Jesse Hodges was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He had one RBI and scored twice.
Center fielder Rashad Crawford went 2 for 5 with a double and two runs scored, extending his hitting streak to 18 games.
Right fielder Jeffrey Baez was 0 for 5, ending his hitting streak at 20 games.
