Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were abducted by the Las Vegas 51s (Mets), 6-5.
Felix Doubront made his Cubs debut in this game and pitched four innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Doubront struck out seven and walked two.
Marcus Hatley pitched the top of the ninth and took the loss. He gave up one run on three hits. He struck out one and intentionally walked one.
Third baseman Kris Bryant hit his 39th home run of the year when he hit an opposite field solo home run in the eighth. It was his 17th home run for Iowa. Bryant went 3 for 5 with two RBI.
Catcher Rafael Lopez was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored one run.
Omaha lost in Salt Lake City, so Iowa keeps their one-game lead.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were orbited by the Huntsville Stars (Brewers), 5-2.
Felix Peña started and took the loss. He lasted 4.1 innings and allowed three runs, all in the fifth inning, on four hits. Peña walked four and struck out five.
Center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha was 2 for 4 with a double. Shortstop Addison Russell was 1 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. He scored one run.
Chattanooga won, so the Smokies are in a three-way tie for first with Huntsville and Chattanooga.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs split a doubleheader with the Brevard County Manatees (Brewers), losing the first game 5-1 and winning the second game 3-2.
Juan Paniagua got knocked around in the first game for five runs, three of which were earned. Paniagua pitched the first 3.2 innings and gave up seven hits, including a two-run home run. He walked three and struck out three.
Center fielder Jacob Hannemann was 2 for 4 with an RBI double in the third inning that scored Gioskar Amaya. Amaya was 2 for 3.
In the second game, Tayler Scott pitched the first six innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Scott struck out five and walked two. After a pretty bad first half, Scott has been pretty good lately as he's given up two or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts.
Yao-Lin Wang pitched a perfect top of the ninth and got the win when Daytona scored in the bottom of the inning. Wang struck out one.
Catcher Chad Krist walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh and went to second on a single by right fielder Bijan Rademacher. Krist scored the winning run when Manatees pitcher Taylor WIlliams threw away GIoskar Amaya's sacrifice bunt.
Krist was 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI. Rademacher went 2 for 3 with a double. Amaya was 0 for 2.
First baseman Dan Vogelbach was 2 for 3.
Daytona has a 3 1/2 game lead over Tampa.
Kane County Cougars
The Kane County Cougars scored four times in the bottom of the ninth to stun the Quad Cities River Bandits (Astros), 4-3.
Jen-Ho Tseng didn't allow a hit until there was one out in the fifth, but he got into some trouble in the sixth inning. Tseng finished the game allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. Tseng struck out five.
David Garner pitched a perfect top of the ninth and got his first Kane County win. He did not strike anyone out.
Shortstop Danny Lockhart singled home third baseman Jeimer Candelario in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run. Lockhart was 1 for 5 with a stolen base and Candelario was 1 for 4 and he tripled in the fourth inning. Candelario reached on an error in the ninth.
First baseman Jacob Rogers got the Cougars on the board in the ninth inning when he hit a two-run home run, his 14th of the season. Rogers was 1 for 4.
Right fielder Jeffrey Baez was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Left fielder Shawon Dunston was 2 for 5 and he stole two bases.
Boise Hawks
The Boise Hawks beat the Eugene Emeralds (Padres), 9-8 in ten innings.
Starter Trevor Clifton didn't make it out of the second inning. He gave up five runs on five hits in only 1.2 innings. At least two of the runs were unearned. Clifton walked two and struck out two. He also had two wild pitches.
Yomar Morel took over for Clifton and kept the Hawks in the game. He gave up only one run on a solo home run in the third inning. Morel allowed three total hits and he didn't walk anyone. He struck out one.
Sam Wilson blew the save in the top of the ninth inning, but stayed in the game in the tenth and got the win. Wilson allowed one run on two hits over two innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Right fielder Charcer Burks singled home shortstop Bryant Flete with the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. Burks was 2 for 5 with a walk and also scored a run. Flete was 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI.
Center fielder Rashad Crawford went 2 for 5 with a double and a walk. He scored one run and had one RBI.
First baseman Danny Canela and third baseman Jesse Hodges had identical lines. Both were 2 for 5 with a double, two runs batted in and one run scored.
