Newest Cub Victor Caratini has been assigned to Kane County, as expected. He did not make it to tonight's game in time to play, but he did see the end of the game and will be available tomorrow. Will Remillard was placed on the disabled list.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs hit four home runs as they busted the New Orleans Zephyrs (Marlins), 9-2.
Starter Carlos Pimentel got the win as he gave up one run on four hits over six innings. The one run came on a solo home run by former Cubs farmhand Justin Bour.
Kyuji Fujikawa pitched a perfect seventh inning. He did not have a strikeout.
Left fielder Josh Vitters broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning with a two-run home run, his tenth of the year. Vitters was 1 for 4.
The second Iowa home run came an inning later as right fielder Jorge Soler hit his third Iowa blast with two men on. Soler was 1 for 5 and scored twice.
Home run number three came off the bat of catcher Eli Whiteside with the bases empty in the fifth inning. It was Whiteside's fifth home run this year. Whiteside also doubled as he went 2 for 4.
The final Iowa home run of the night belonged to third baseman Kris Bryant. It came in the top of the ninth with a man on and was his 36th home run this season, 14th with Iowa. (By the way, Bryant's 22 home runs in the Southern League still leads that league by four home runs.) Bryant was 1 for 4 and was hit by a pitch. He scored three times.
Center fielder Matt Szczur went 2 for 5 with a double and a stolen base. He scored once.
Tennessee Smokies
Christian Villanueva singled home Albert Almora in the bottom of the tenth as the Tennessee Smokies netted the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Reds), 2-1 in ten innings.
Corey Black pitched the first six innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out seven and walked two.
Frank Batista pitched the top of the tenth inning and got his third win. He gave up a one-out infield single, but nothing else. Batista struck out two.
The Smokies scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning when shortstop Addison Russell cracked his eighth home run of the season and seventh with the Smokies. Russell went 1 for 5 on the evening.

Almora was 2 for 5. Villanueva went 1 for 5. Lars Anderson was 3 for 5 with a double.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs were pinched by the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Rays), 7-0.
Jose Rosario pitched five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. He walked three and struck out three as his record dropped to 4-7.
Catcher Chadd Krist doubled twice in a 2 for 3 game.
Kane County Cougars.
The Kane County Cougars arrested the Quad Cities River Bandits (Astros), 6-2.
Starter Tyler Ihrig got his first Kane County win. He allowed two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings. Ihrig struck out six and walked two.
Jose Arias was perfect over the final two innings in a non-save situation. Arias struck out one.
Kane County scored all six runs in the second inning. Center fielder Trey Marin was 2 for 4 with a two-run single. He later scored.
Right fielder Jeffrey Baez went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Second baseman Chesny Young was 2 for 5.
Boise Hawks
The Boise Hawks called on some Memorial Stadium Magic to defeat the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays), 11-10 in 11 innings.
Starter Dillon Maples surrendered five runs on six hits in only three innings. One of the runs was unearned. Maples struck out two and walked one.
The Hawks trailed Vancouver 9-2 in the bottom of the sixth and still trailed 10-6 going into the ninth. So Boise manager Gary Van Tol put outfielder Charlie White on the mound, and he tossed a scoreless top of the ninth. But Boise came back and scored four runs in the bottom of he ninth to tie it, and White had to stay in the game, eventually picking up the win. White pitched three scoreless innings, giving up three hits. He struck out three and didn't walk anyone.
Danny Lockhart scored the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh on a wild pitch. He was 2 for 6 and scored two runs.
Alex Tomasovich went 3 for 5 with a double. He had three RBI and he scored once.
Bryant Flete was 2 for 5 with two RBI and one run scored. David Bote was 2 for 4 with two walks and two runs scored. Mark Malave was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Justin Marra had a two-out, two-run pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at 10-10.
AZL Cubs
Beat the Athletics, 9-0 in a game that ended after five innings because of rain.
