Cubs Minor League Wrap: August 6

The Smokies and Kane County win as Daytona's hitting woes returned.

Iowa Cubs

Off day.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies burned the Mobile Bay Bears (Diamondbacks), 5-0.

Starter Felix Peña collected the win after 5.1 innings, giving up just three hits. He struck out eight and walked only two.

Shortstop Addison Russell was 2 for 4 with an RBI double and a walk. He scored a run as well.

Left fielder Pin-Chieh Chen was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI. He scored two runs.

Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs were shut out by the Clearwater Threshers (Phillies), 4-0.

Juan Paniagua started and allowed two home runs in the first four innings and took the loss. He pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four runs on three hits. He struck out six and walked three.

The Cubs did not have a hit until Billy McKinney singled with one out in the eighth inning. He was 1 for 2 with a walk.

Kane County Cougars

The Kane County Cougars stopped the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals), 4-2.

Paul Blackburn started and got the win. He allowed two runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked only one.

Tyler Bremer pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 12th save.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario was 3 for 4 with one run scored. Jeffrey Baez was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Shawon Dunston exited this game after the first inning, leading to rumors that he had been traded. However, contrary to reports, he spent the whole game on the Cougars bench. After the game, it was revealed that he had an upset stomach.
