Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 150

After missing 18 games, Anthony Rizzo comes back in fine fashion to win the walkoff Superhero award on Monday night.

Now that's a happy guy right there.

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Neither will show up on the podium in this game, but honorable mention goes to Neil Ramirez and Pedro Strop for bridging the gap in the seventh and eighth innings to assist in setting up the walkoff heroics a short time later.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Anthony Rizzo (.357). If you're going to make a statement in your first game back, doing something that hasn't happened in 19 years at Wrigley Field is definitely one way to do it.
  • Hero - Travis Wood (.350). It's a clichéd statement, but he truly is a box of chocolates this year.
  • Sidekick - Hector Rondon (.134). He knows very well how to take the final step of the Hero podium; it's the 15th time this year that he's done so, one of only two players to reach double-digits in Sidekick award points for the Cubs (Rizzo -- 10).

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Javier Baez (-.140). The only 0-for-4 on the night for the Cubs.
  • Goat - Welington Castillo (-.118). 0-for-3 with the dreaded bases-loaded foulout.
  • Kid - Jorge Soler (-.069). I'll write this one off as being due to new-dad hangover.

UPDATED RANKINGS THROUGH GAME 150 (Changes in Bold, Notations Below):

x - Player not on active roster.
y - Player not on 40-man roster.
z - Player no longer with Cubs.

Rizzo pads his plus/minus chart lead and leaves me wondering: Will he break the plus-50 mark this season?
