Daytona Cubs Minor League Wrap: September 5

Daytona's backs are against the wall.

Elsa

Just a quick announcement on your choices for the BCB Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year. Your choices were Kris Bryant and Jen-Ho Tseng! So congratulations to those two and we'll see if the Cubs choices match yours.

One of those votes was never in doubt though.

Only one game tonight and it wasn't a good one.

Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs were shut out by the Ft. Myers Miracle (Twins), 5-0. The D-Cubs now trail the best-of-five series two games to none heading back to Daytona.

Starter Justin Amlung took the loss. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs (all in the third inning) on seven hits. He walked two and struck out one.

The other two runs scored in the eighth inning when Starling Peralta issued two bases-loaded walks. Peralta pitched one inning and allowed two runs on one hit, two walks and a hit batsman. Both runs were unearned because of an error earlier in the inning by third baseman Wes Darvill. Peralta did not record a strikeout.

Darvill was 2 for 4 with a double in this game. Second baseman Gioskar Amaya was 2 for 5 with a double. Shortstop Marco Hernandez was 2 for 4.

The Daytona Cubs went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position in this game.

Game three is tomorrow night at 6:05 Central time at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach. Daytona must sweep three games at home to avoid losing a playoff series for the first time in franchise history.

Kane County Cougars

The Cedar Rapids Kernels beat Burlington 4-2, so the Cougars will travel to Cedar Rapids to play game one of the Western Division Finals tomorrow.
