So as it turned out, the Cubs were the only team that didn't have to go to a decisive Game 5 to move into the league championship series. The Royals and Blue Jays both won Game 5 in their home park Wednesday and they'll meet in the ALCS beginning Friday evening in Kansas City.
The Dodgers and Mets meet tonight to decide who will face the Cubs for the N.L. pennant. Each team split in the other one's park, so there's no determining advantage from that. Zack Greinke, the Dodgers starter in today's game, threw seven innings and allowed two runs in Game 2. Jacob deGrom, the Mets starter today, threw seven shutout innings and struck out 13 Dodgers in Game 1.
Pretty evenly matched. Beyond the fact that emotionally I'd like for the Cubs to play the Mets in the NLCS, I think the Cubs match up better with the Mets' young pitching staff, and I really don't want the Cubs to have to face Greinke and Clayton Kershaw in the NLCS. What say you? Vote in the poll.
The game is on TBS with its usual announcing crew, who you'd better get used to because they will be calling the NLCS: Ernie Johnson, Ron Darling, Cal Ripken, Sam Ryan and Matt Winer.
MLB.com GamedayI hope the game goes into extra innings and exhausts everyone. Beyond all that -- there's a chance of rain in the Los Angeles area this evening.
This will be the only thread for tonight's game. Enjoy, and discuss amongst yourselves.
