The Blue Jays, unlike the Cubs, must win three straight elimination games instead of four. It's still a difficult and unlikely task, but if they do so, they would neatly turn around what happened in the ALCS exactly 30 years ago against the Royals.
That's when Toronto had a three-games-to-one lead over Kansas City and lost the series. Different time, different players, different ballparks (K.C.'s is actually the same park, though it was extensively renovated in 2009).
The Game 1 starters will get the call again in Game 5.
Edinson Volquez shut down the Blue Jays on just two hits over six innings in Game 1.
Marco Estrada didn't pitch too badly, striking out six in 5⅓ innings, but allowed all three runs the Royals scored.
Will the Jays be able to send the series back to Kansas City for Game 6?
The game is on FS1. Announcers: Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci.
This will be the only thread for this afternoon's game. The game preview for NLCS Game 4 will post at 5 p.m. CT. Enjoy, and discuss amongst yourselves while we await tonight's Cubs/Mets game.
