BCB's David Sameshima made a brief visit to Wrigley Field Wednesday evening and filed this report:
There were a handful of contractors still working by the front of the ballpark. The Cubs Christmas tree was up, with the lights turned on. It was difficult to capture with my pocket camera, but there is a revolving spotlight set up on top of the Cubs Store. It is displaying multiple star shaped Cubs logos on the ground, in front of the store entrance. The tree lights were turned off as I was leaving.
And those lights will be turned back on this evening in a ceremony in front of the Cubs Store at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited, so if you're in the neighborhood, stop on by. Here are more details on the tree-lighting ceremony:
Hall of Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins will be joined by Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts, Cubs Charities Chair Laura Ricketts and representatives from many of the organizations that benefited from the team's 2015 Let's Give service projects. We invite fans and neighbors to participate in a holiday toy drive benefiting deserving children in the community. New, unwrapped toys may be donated at the ceremony or during the Cubs Store's open hours (10 a.m.-7 p.m.) leading up to the event. Toys will be donated to Children's Home and Aid Society.
We'll have more construction photos later in the week.
