Cubs Cut 12 Players From Major League Roster

Albert Almora and Kyle Schwarber are the biggest names cut today as the dugout in Mesa gets a little less crowded.

The Cubs got their major league roster down to today by cutting 12 players and reassigning them all to other places in the organization.

The players send down to the minor league camp were all non-roster invitees. They are:

OF Albert Almora

RHP Daniel Bard

OF Mike Baxter

LHP Francisley Bueno

RHP Anthony Carter

OF Adron Chambers

RHP Jorge De Leon

RHP Gonzalez Germen

C Kyle Schwarber

INF Chris Valaika

Additionally, two members of the 40-man roster were re-assigned to Triple-A Iowa.

LHP Joseph Ortiz

RHP Blake Parker

All of these players were long shots to make the Opening Day roster and in the case of the top prospects like Almora and Schwarber, were guaranteed to start the season in the minor leagues.

These were the easy cuts. The harder ones will take place in the coming week.
