The Sordid Travels Of A Cubs Fan: Road Trip To Spring Training

BCB's Danny Rockett and his girlfriend Nicole drive her inherited late grandmother's car to Arizona. Mayhem ensues.

They say getting there is half the fun. I can't say that was true of this particular road trip from Chicago to my Airbnb rental in Tempe, Arizona because I anticipate that having season tickets for this year's Cubs Spring Training will be significantly more fun than driving through a horrible snow storm, backing the car into a tree planter, and nursing my girlfriend through the worst hangover of her life at the grimiest hotel I've ever stayed at. Which is saying something because I toured with an unsuccessful rock band for a couple of years.

But on the positive side of things, I said a prayer for the Cubbies at the Oral Roberts prayer tower at his strangely-constructed University, my girlfriend won $20 on a Dean Martin "Wild Party" slot machine at an Indian Casino in Oklahoma, I played with aliens in Roswell, New Mexico, met a man named "God" who ran for mayor of Tucson three times, and saw a whole lot of this great country of ours. 1,839 miles of it, to be more specific.

Now let's watch some Cubs baseball!!!

Next year. I suggest a BCB party bus! Who's with me!?

PS. If anyone needs a cheap bicycle in Phoenix, let me know. I know a guy.

Enjoy the pics!
