Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 3

Despite five runs allowed by Travis Wood and Brian Schlitter, it's the offense once again that sweeps the Goat podium.

One of these four people was at the top of the Goat podium on Friday. Hint: It's not the guy on the left.

Yeah, five hits in Colorado just isn't going to cut it.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Anthony Rizzo (.144). A perfect 3-for-3 in podium appearances this season for Rizzo. Of course one of those was a Goat appearance, but that's a different story.
  • Hero - Jorge Soler (.052). Nothing fancy about his 1-for-3 day other than getting on base twice while the game was still close.
  • Sidekick - Jason Motte (.034). Only needed two pitches to take the final spot on the Hero podium Friday.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Dexter Fowler (-.137). It's been a rough start to the season so far for Fowler.
  • Goat - Welington Castillo (-.101). The first-pitch flyout to end the third really hurt.
  • Kid - Starlin Castro (-.100). Despite a 1-for-4 day, the 6-4-3 double play in the fifth landed him at the bottom of the Goats.

Rizzo's third consecutive podium appearance moves him into a tie at the top of the plus-minus chart, while Fowler still tries to get himself on track at the beginning of the season.
