Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 5

As Al said in his recap, you already know who won the top spot on the podium on Sunday afternoon.

"Slump? What slump? That Heroes and Goats guy doesn't know what he's talking about."

And now, class, I would like you to open your Hitting in the Major Leagues books to Chapter 4: "How to Knock the Living Daylights Out of a Hanging Slider."

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Dexter Fowler (.738). There was only one WPA performance above .550 last season by a hitter, and that was by Chris Coghlan on September 20, 2014.
  • Hero - Hector Rondon (.252). Gave up a two-out double to make it interesting, but escaped the jam with a Carlos Gonzalez popout to end the game.
  • Sidekick - Chris Coghlan (.172). Nice day for him recording a double, two walks and a steal of third base.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Kyle Hendricks (-.305). May have been a completely different podium had he not gotten his glove on that ball in the second inning.
  • Goat - Jorge Soler (-.210). The dreaded Strat-O-Matic play in the fifth: "Line out into as many outs as possible."
  • Kid - Starlin Castro (-.179). 0-for-4 with a double play of his own.
