Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 7

There was a common theme among the three members of the Goat podium on Tuesday night.

This feels like a "Write Your Own Caption" moment.

"Kind of a Drag" Fact: It's been a while since the Cubs scored a run off of Aroldis Chapman. Almost two years, actually: The last time they did manage to score a run against him was on May 3, 2013. They have not scored a run off of him in 12 straight appearances since then.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Matt Szczur (.169). Takes the top spot with the power of the base on balls.
  • Hero - Welington Castillo (.161). Cut the lead to one with his basket shot off of Kevin Gregg, but it would get no closer than that.
  • Sidekick - Starlin Castro (.121). Rounds out the Hero podium thanks to his leadoff single in the ninth.

THE THREE GOATS: A common theme tonight for the Goat podium, with the biggest negative play for each of them being:

  • Billy Goat - Mike Olt (-.217). A whiff swinging to end the game;
  • Goat - Chris Coghlan (-.184). A whiff swinging to end the eighth, and...
  • Kid - David Ross (-.155). A whiff looking with two on in the ninth.

Szczur makes his first Hero appearance for the 2015 season, while Coghlan and Olt slide down to the lower end of the plus/minus chart.
