Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 10

Well, that only took a day.

That bat will make for an interesting memento in his trophy case.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

I'll ruin a bit of the suspense here and state that despite driving in the game-winning run, Starlin Castro did not make the Hero podium on Saturday afternoon.  That's not to say that he shouldn't possibly be the Player of the Game or one of the Three Stars if this were a Blackhawks game, because he could very easily be one of those.

And no, I don't hate Starlin Castro. And I still don't hate Chris Coghlan.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Kris Bryant (.358). Hey, a broken-bat flare for a first major-league hit will do just fine.
  • Hero - Anthony Rizzo (.338). The Cubs have played 10 games and Rizzo has appeared on a podium eight times.
  • Sidekick - Zac Rosscup (.246). If you can throw two scoreless innings at the end of the game, you'll reap the benefits.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Hector Rondon (-.315). His first four-hit meltdown since June 23, 2014.
  • Goat - Chris Coghlan (-.244). Three opportunities with runners in scoring position and came up empty.
  • Kid - Jorge Soler (-.183). Three strikeouts on the day and the double in the eighth barely deflected the needle.

Rizzo opens up his lead at the top of the plus/minus chart, while Coghlan finds his way to the basement after 10 games.
