Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 12

Hey, look! It's the new guy! Again!

"Rizzo had nine podiums in 12 games? Well, that's easy enough."

But off in the distance, I can see a steady approach of torches headed this direction. Some of you might already know why.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Kris Bryant (.429). Little League homers are so much fun.
  • Hero - Jake Arrieta (.239). In his last seven outings dating back to last September he has allowed a total of seven earned runs. He has also posted four Game Scores above 70 in that time span.
  • Sidekick - Starlin Castro (.128). And here comes the mob. Now I say all of this with a smile on my face: Before the shouts start coming out about Jorge Soler (.113) and his four hits and how WPA has bazillions of flaws, your complaints have been noted in advance. (Still smiling.) I would also like to steal a line from the game show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", namely that the game's made up and the points don't matter. The staff of Heroes and Goats thanks you for enjoying the humor.

THE THREE GOATS:

Another three-way bump courtesy of Jake Arrieta posting a -.197 hitting. That makes three bumps in 12 games for those that are wondering.

  • Billy Goat - Chris Coghlan (-.142). The guy just can't buy his way off of the Goat podium right now.
  • Goat - Dexter Fowler (-.100). An 0-for-5 night will normally land you in the bottom three.
  • Kid - Jonathan Herrera (-.059). Had the run-scoring single late in the game, but it was already 4-1 by the time he hit it.

Bryant jumps to the top of the plus/minus chart in his fourth game with the big club. Meanwhile, if someone could give me one of those torches to throw down to Coghlan so he can see, that would be great.
