It's not my job to sniff out every thing about the Cubs put it out there for you to hear. It's not my job. You want me to be candid with you? Oh, wait just a minute. It is my job to sniff that stuff out. Carry on as before.
- As you have no doubt heard, Reds manager Bryan Price went off on a rant against Cincinnati Enquirer reporter C. Trent Rosecrans, upset that Rosecrans had reported information about the Reds that Price wishes had been kept private.
- If you want to hear the rant with bleeps, here you go.
- Apparently the Enquirer doesn't want you to hear it.
- Rosecrans gives his take on the story. As he points out, it is his job to report information on the Reds, whether Price likes it or not.
- Rosecrans's colleague John Fay says that Price was out of line. Not for the 77 F-bombs, but for the way that Price expects the Enquirer to work for the team.
- Ken Rosenthal thinks that Price cracked under pressure, but that his time as Reds manager should not be defined by this rant.
- Price apologized. Not for criticizing Rosecrans for doing his job, but for the profanity. Rodger Sherman says the language wasn't the issue, it was the sentiment, which Price has notably stood by.
- Craig Calcaterra says that this story is about the blurring lines between journalism and public relations in today's media landscape.
- Calcaterra also wonders why reporters are allowed in clubhouses at all. Really, just tradition. He kind of has a point there. Other countries don't do this.
- Andy Martino asks Mets manager Terry Collins and Braves skipper Fredi Gonzalez about information getting out. Essentially, Collins and Gonzalez say they don't like it, but accept it as a fact of life.
- Will Leitch says that Price needs to realize that dealing with leaked information is part of his job and the price he needs to pay to be one of only 30 men to manage a major league team. Although Mesoraco's status wasn't so much a leak as someone just looking around the clubhouse a few days and not seeing him. Leitch reiterates the point that Rosecrans doesn't work for the Reds.
- Matt Snyder ranks Price's diatribe among the all-time greats. The Cubs are still number one!
- Mike Oz does the same thing, although he adds in rants from other sports as well. The Cubs are still number one!
- Actually, this rant would be number one if it were real. Well, that's really Earl Weaver, but it's part of a prank and not a real rant. (EXTREMELY NSFW)
- Maybe one manager who should go on a rant is the Marlins Mike Redmond. Amidst rumors that the Marlins are looking for Redmond's replacement, owner Jeffrey Loria declined to comment on Redmond's job status or the reports on a managerial search.
- Speculation is centering around Mets Triple-A manager Wally Backman after reports that the Marlins were asking a lot of questions about Backman in New York.
- Backman, for his part, was shocked by the rumors and said no one from the Marlins has contacted him. GM Sandy Alderson added that no one has asked for permission to speak to Backman either.
- And maybe Robin Ventura should look over his shoulder too as the White Sox manager got the dreaded "vote of confidence" from GM Rick Hahn. Of course, I guess a vote of confidence is better than what Redmond got.
- Royals pitcher Kelvin Herrera was suspended for five games for throwing at the Athletics Brett Lawrie. Yordana Ventura, who actually hit Lawrie, was only fined.
- Jon Paul Morosi explains why each player got the punishment they did.
- David Ortiz got a one-game suspension for bumping an umpire.
- Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy was placed on the disabled list with a broken toe.
- And Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett went on the DL with a freak showering accident.
- Mike Petriello looks at the bleak future ahead for the Brewers.
- Brian Kenny thinks that infielders are in more danger than ever from injuries from slides at second base.
- The Angels have a plan, at least, for Josh Hamilton's return to playing in the majors. Whether that will be with the Angels is a question yet to be answered.
- Angels GM Jerry Dipoto says that Hamilton will head to their spring training facility in Arizona "sooner rather than later."
- Ben Lindbergh thinks the Tigers are still the team to beat in the AL Central.
- They do still have a problem with their bullpen, of course. Matt Trueblood gives the Tigers some options for solving their perennial bullpen issues.
- Grant Brisbee wants to know who are the most watchable teams in baseball right now? The Cubs are right up there.
- Rob Neyer thinks the new "statcast" baseball telecasts are meaningless unless fans are given some kind of context for the numbers.
- The Tennesseean makes the case for a major league baseball team in Nashville.
- The Royals are still serving moldy food.
- And finally, this is a debate that has been tearing the internet apart in a way that hasn't been seen since, oh, a few weeks ago and the color of a dress. When we say a team "bats around" in an inning, do we mean nine or ten batters come to the plate?
And tomorrow will be a better day than today, Buster.
