Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 14

New, 5 comments

There have been worse nights for Jason Hammel, but the four runs allowed in five innings were enough to take the top of the Goat podium on Wednesday night.

If you were Jorge Soler, facing a guy who can throw 100 miles per hour, and trying to hit in a snow squall, what would you be thinking?

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Miguel Montero (.107). Hey, Miggy! Welcome to the Hero podium!  View's different from over here, isn't it?
  • Hero - Starlin Castro (.050). Fourth game in a row on the Hero podium for Starlin.
  • Sidekick - Dexter Fowler (.046). All he needed was one at-bat. Well, that and a swipe of second base.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Jason Hammel (-.215). Gave up a couple of hard-hit balls, but also got dinked and dunked a lot. The Castro error in the third didn't help him any, either.
  • Goat - Addison Russell (-.156). Got his first major-league hit, which was a plus. Unfortunately for him it didn't come in the eighth inning.
  • Kid - Jorge Soler (-.148). Tough night for the blue-faced ninja.

Castro's fourth consecutive Hero appearance moves him into a tie for the top of the leaderboard, climbing nine points in four games.
