Hooray! I get my wish of another bench player, and you all get your wish of Brian Schlitter not on the team anymore!
Junior Lake with #Cubs. Schlitter optioned to Iowa
— Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) April 27, 2015
Lake's unlikely to get much time starting, as Cubs outfielders are pretty well established in their positions (the "Chris" platoon in left, Dexter Fowler in center and Jorge Soler in right).
In 13 games at Triple-A Iowa this year, Lake is hitting .289/.340/.333. He's 13-for-45 with two doubles, eight RBI, two steals, four walks and 12 strikeouts. That's not a Triple-A performance that will put much fear into National League pitchers, but again, we're talking about a 25th man here who will likely pinch-run and pinch-hit. I'd say "be a defensive replacement," but I'd cringe at the thought, as you likely would, too.
At least Joe Maddon now has another option for pinch-running and pinch-hitting. Maybe Lake will show enough to stick, this time.
