Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 19

After a 10-game absence from the top of the mountain, Dexter Fowler steps back up to lead the Heroes on Tuesday night.

This was one of his hits that wasn't on an "oops" swing.

Fun Fact: The last Cubs' four-game win streak occurred from August 22-26, 2014 when they swept a three-game series against the Orioles and won the first game of their next series against the Reds.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Dexter Fowler (.192). A big night for him with three hits and two early runs driven in. A bit of an assist goes to Corey Hart for throwing a ball to the second-base umpire.
  • Hero - Junior Lake (.135). Ah, the early tease of a good Junior Lake. It's like 2013 all over again except without all of the Cub badness.
  • Sidekick - Travis Wood (.117). It's the first time he's ever had two April outings with a game score of 68 or better in his career.

THE THREE GOATS:

Yet another three-way bump with Travis Wood's -.091 hitting moved out. That makes seven bumps in 19 games, all from the Goats. In case you're wondering, there were 34 total bumps in 2014, 19 of which came from the Goats. That number appears to be in serious jeopardy this season.

  • Billy Goat - Welington Castillo (-.061). Hit the ball really hard in the second inning, but unfortunately for him it was right at Neil Walker.
  • Goat - Jorge Soler (-.056). His last six podium appearances have all been on the Goat side.
  • Kid - Anthony Rizzo (-.027). Only got on base once in five plate appearances. He's obviously toast.

Rizzo sildes back into a tie for first on the plus/minus chart, while Soler finds himself in strange territory near the cellar door.
