Chicago Cubs vs. Detroit Tigers Preview, Wednesday 6/10, 6:08 CT

The Cubs look for a series split and a winning road trip.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the rough go of things during parts of this road trip, including Tuesday night's horrid loss, the Cubs can come home with a winning road trip with a victory tonight. That would also give them their first victory at Comerica Park since 2001; they have lost the last five games they've played there and are just 2-7 overall in Detroit since interleague play began.

I said before this trip started that I'd be very happy with a 5-4 trip. If they can do that, despite the somewhat-odd way it would have happened, I'll still be quite satisfied.

Here are today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Fowler CF, Rizzo 1B, Bryant 3B, Montero C, Coghlan LF, Castro SS, Baxter DH, Denorfia RF, Russell 2B

You're probably all going to complain about Mike Baxter being the DH tonight. Baxter is 2-for-5 on this road trip, and you never know what's going to happen. It can't be any worse than having one of the Cubs pitchers bat.

Tigers lineup:

Gose CF, Kinsler 2B, Cabrera 1B, Cespedes LF, Martinez RF, Collins DH, Castellanos 3B, McCann C, Iglesias SS

vs. Cubs

Jake Arrieta has been pretty consistent all year and had a very good start in his last outing June 4 in Washington. Unfortunately, like Jon Lester, Arrieta hasn't had success in Comerica Park (two starts, 4.91 ERA). That was before Bosmosis, though. Current members of the Tigers are 8-for-41 (.195) against Arrieta with two home runs (Miguel Cabrera, Ian Kinsler).

Shane Greene came to the Tigers from the Yankees in the three-way trade that sent Robbie Ray to Detroit and Didi Gregorius to New York. He had a decent rookie year for the Yankees in 2014, not quite so good this year. His last three starts have been pretty bad (11.57 ERA, five home runs allowed in 11⅔ innings). He has never faced the Cubs and only David Ross and Jonathan Herrera (one PA each) have faced him before.

Today's game is on CSN Chicago.

Please visit our SB Nation Tigers site Bless You Boys. If you do go there to interact with Tigers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

The 2015 Game Thread procedure has changed a bit. Here's how it will work going forward.

You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
