Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 64

The top of the Goat podium was determined on Thursday night in some part by Mother Nature.

But only in part, and who knows just how big of a part. As is the case with how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Kyle Schwarber (.165). I know it won't happen, but how funny would it be to see Schwarber take the top spot on the Hero podium five times before he heads back to Iowa? It'd be pretty giggle-worthy, at least for me.
  • Hero - Starlin Castro (.113). Or more appropriately, Starlin Castro's forearm.
  • Sidekick - Dexter Fowler (.084). With a fruit basket to Francisco Lindor for his error that allowed Schwarber to score in the third.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Jason Hammel (-.176). Perhaps without the rain delay Hammel would have had a chance at some redemption with a fifth inning of work. He probably wouldn't have gone much further than that since he was already at 86 pitches through four.
  • Goat - Justin Grimm (-.163). I'm thinking that he's going to get a lot of votes for the Marmol of the Game.
  • Kid - Anthony Rizzo (-.128). Uh, Rizz... you've given enough points back now. You can start working your magic on the Hero podium again whenever you're ready. But thanks for keeping the plus/minus chart somewhat respectable.
RANKINGS THROUGH GAME 64 ("x" indicates player not on active roster):

With a second straight Superhero award, Schwarber moves into a tie for fourth with Mr. Rally Bucket himself, Jonathan Herrera.
