Since Tsuyoshi Wada isn't quite ready to make another start, quite yet, the Cubs are recalling Donn Roach from Triple-A Iowa to start tonight's game against the Cardinals. This, you have known for a day or so.
What was unknown is the roster move to add Roach to the 25-man roster. Now we know:
#Cubs option Medina to open roster spot for Donn Roach

Yoervis Medina made three appearances for the Cubs and allowed no runs and two hits, while striking out three. Most importantly, he didn't walk any of the 17 hitters he faced in those three outings, and command and control had been one of his biggest problems. If he can harness those, he could be a useful part of the bullpen going forward.
Most likely, Roach heads back to Iowa after this start. What's unknown is who will replace him on the 25-man roster after tonight. If Neil Ramirez' rehab assignment is deemed a success, perhaps it will be him. That would be a big boost to the pen. In three outings split between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa, Ramirez has faced nine batters (2⅔ innings), allowed one hit, and struck out four. He has not pitched on back-to-back days yet and the Cubs might want to wait for that.
What is still not known is who will be removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Roach, who was not on that roster. My guess is that Tommy La Stella will be moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL to make room. When I find out specifics, I'll update this post.
