I know all of you were planning to watch tomorrow evening's minor league clash between the Cubs High-A affiliate the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Carolina Mudcats at 6 p.m. Central on the American Sports Network anyway. It's going to come on right after the Cubs and Nationals finish up so you can just keep right on watching when that game is over. But just in case you were thinking of having dinner or something, the Pelicans have teamed up with the Myrtle Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau (VisitMyrtleBeach.com) to make it worth your while.
Every inning starting with the bottom of the first inning, the Pelicans are going to give out prizes to fans who Tweet about the game using the hashtag #9InningsofWinning. You also have to follow the Visitors Bureau's Twitter account at @MyMyrtleBeach in order to be eligible to win.
That's all you have to do. Posts will be tracked from now through Monday, June 8 at Noon EST.
Also, the affiliates are trying to get a hashtag going with #CubsFamily that will be used all season long for televised games involving Iowa and Tennessee. And South Bend Cubs are going to be televised locally in South Bend, so use it for them too. But that's not part of the contest entry. Use #9InningsofWinning for that.
The grand prize? A trip for two to Myrtle Beach, including airfare, hotel and VIP tickets to a Pelicans game. So yeah, you're going to want to enter.
I'm going to repeat that in bold so that the tl;dr crowd will see. YOU CAN WIN A TRIP TO MYRTLE BEACH TO SEE THE PELICANS. And I'm sure all the other wonderful things you can do in Myrtle Beach.
There will be additional smaller prizes and those prizes will be announced by various members of the Cubs Twitter community that you should be following. At the end of the eighth inning, we at Bleed Cubbie Blue will announce on Twitter the winner of a 2015 subscription to mlb.tv, so you can watch major league games on the internet all summer long. (Insert blackout jokes here)
The announcement for the free mlb.tv subscription will come from Al's Twitter account at @bleedcubbieblue, although it will be me (Josh) actually making the Tweet. But if you're not following @bleedcubbieblue on Twitter, you need to start now. And while I won't be making any official announcements on my account at @CubsMinorsWrap, I will be mirroring the announcement on that account. And if you could follow me there as well, I'd appreciate it.
So how do you get stay informed about this awesome giveaway? You need to follow some Twitter accounts.
First of all, every inning will start with an announcement of the start of each giveaway from @Pelicanbaseball. So start by following them.
A copy of the official rules can be found here. Open to US and Canadian residents over the age of 18.
The prizes are scheduled to be as followed, along with the Twitter account that will announce the winner. I'll toss in a standard disclaimer that they're subject to change, although I don't know that there's much chance of that. But follow @Pelicanbaseball for the final details.
And who is scheduled to announce those prizes?
End of the 1st: @Cubs. Prize: Autographed ball from all minor league affiliates
End of the 2nd: @EugeneEmeralds: Caps from each minor league affiliate
End of the 3rd: @CubsDen: A 2015 subscription to milb.tv
End of the 4th: @SBCubs: Cubs player apparel
End of the 5th: @Pelicanbaseball: Jersey nameplate from former Pelicans.
End of the 6th: @smokiesbaseball: Personal video message from a Chicago Cubs player.
End of the 7th: @IowaCubs: A Chicago Cubs player will record a voicemail message for your phone
End of the 8th: @bleedcubbieblue: A 2015 subscription to mlb.tv
End of the 9th: Follow @pelicansbaseball to find out who will announce this prize: One game-worn jersey of all 13 different 2015 Pelicans jerseys.
The big grand prize will be announced Monday by @MyMyrtleBeach.
The Pelicans will also be giving out goofy minor prizes throughout the game. What they are hasn't been determined, except a bag of sea shells direct from Myrtle Beach will be one of them. Winning a goofy prize won't cost you a chance to win one of those big prizes.
So, you're all excited now, right? So how can you watch this game and win all these great prizes? For anyone in the Chicago area, the game will be on CSN Chicago Plus. So click one channel over when the Cubs game ends. For ther rest of you, it's going to be a on a lot of different channels throughout the country.
So how can you find out which channel is carrying the game in your area? Click here for a complete channel list (link opens .pdf). Really, most of the country can see the game. You could also go to the American Sports Network website and type in your zip code. And you could always listen to Nathan Barnett's radio call of the game on the internet if somehow your town got left out.
So carve out some time on Sunday after the Cubs game to tune in to the Pelicans. Most importantly, you'll get to see the Cubs stars of tomorrow. And if you get lucky, you could be seeing them in person later this summer.
Disclaimer: SB Nation and Vox Media are not sponsoring this contest. All we're doing is helping the Pelicans publicize it and passing on who the winners are from our Twitter account.
