Jon Lester is still looking for his first big-league hit. (Further details below.)
Bartolo Colon is a bad hitter, but I'll give him this: he is mightily entertaining at the plate and on the basepaths. Here's a GIF from last year showing him swinging so hard his helmet fell off:
About a month ago, Colon singled, and then did this (click on the image to make it run):

And now Colon and Lester get to bat against each other. Since this is the first time they have met in a National League game, we have never seen this before. You all know how I feel about the DH, but I'll grant you: Watching this will be fun.
Here is your once-a-series reminder about SB Nation's partner daily fantasy game, FanDuel. If you want to participate, here's the link.
Here are today's particulars.
Fowler CF, Rizzo 1B, Bryant 3B, Coghlan LF, Castro SS, Baxter RF, Ross C, Lester P, Herrera 2B
Granderson RF, Tejada SS, Duda 1B, Murphy 3B, Mayberry LF, Flores 2B Plawecki C, Lagares CF, Colon P
Today's Starting Pitchers
We're in July now, so hopefully Jon Lester kisses his bad June (5.74 ERA in five starts) goodbye. He pitched a good, but not great, game against the Mets May 11 at Wrigley Field, allowing three runs in six innings, good enough to win. I'll take that.
Lester hit watch:
2015: 0-for-28 (28 PA), 13 strikeouts
Career: 0-for-64 (71 PA), 35 strikeouts
Somehow, Bartolo Colon missed facing the Cubs all of last year and in the earlier Cubs/Mets series this year at Wrigley. The last time he faced them was July 3, 2013 when he was with the A's -- boxscore link included for amusement value only, though the Cubs did win that game. Thus current Cubs are a very small sample size 2-for-8 against him. Like Lester, Colon is a bad hitter, though he has four hits this year -- more than any Cubs pitcher except Jason Hammel.
This is a fun pitching matchup from the late 2000s American League, except these guys have to bat tonight.
Today's game is on WGN. For coverage info in other Midwest markets click here (link opens .pdf).

The 2015 Game Thread procedure has changed a bit. Here's how it will work going forward.
You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
