I-Cubs starter Drake Britton cruised to an easy win after giving up just one run on six hits over seven innings. The only run came on a solo home run he gave up to Joey Gallo. Britton struck out six and walked no one.
Center fielder Rubi Silva hit a three-run home run in the second inning, his ninth blast of the year. Silva was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Third baseman Mike Olt went 2 for 4 and scored one run. DH Matt Szczur was 2 for 5 with a double and a stolen base. Szczur scored twice.
Catcher Taylor Davis was 2 for 3.
The Smokies were rained out. Doubleheader tomorrow.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans won their seventh-straight game, 4-1 over the Salem Red Sox.
Brad Markey gave up a home run to the first batter of the game, and that was the only run he allowed over six innings. Markey allowed just three hits total. He walked one and struck out two and he got his second win.
David Berg pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the season and first for the Pelicans. Berg struck out one.
Chesny Young extended his on-base streak to 39 games with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Young was 1 for 4.
Catcher Victor Caratini was 2 for 2 with a double and a walk. He scored once.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs wiped out against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers), 4-0.
Starter Zach Hedges took the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits over 7.1 innings. Hedges walked one and struck out four.
Shortstop Gleyber Torres was 2 for 3 with a double.
The Eugene Emeralds lost to the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays), 8-0.
Justin Steele started and got hammered for eight runs on ten hits over five innings. Six of those runs came in the third inning and three of the five runs were unearned. Steele walked three and struck out no one.
Right fielder Ricardo Marcano was 2 for 3.
