Chicago Cubs vs. Colorado Rockies Preview, Tuesday 7/28, 7:05 CT

The Cubs go for two in a row over the visitors from Colorado.

It's going to take quite a bit to top last night's game.

Roster move for tonight, in case you were wondering (really, the only move they could have made):

Back to five starters and eight relievers instead of four and nine. Still could use an extra bench player, in my view.

Here are today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Fowler CF, Schwarber C, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Soler RF, Denorfia LF, Castro SS, Beeler P, Russell 2B

The Rockies are apparently still trying to figure out who's going to play shortstop after the Troy Tulowitzki trade. I assume Jose Reyes will arrive in time, but there was no Rockies lineup available at the time I wrote this preview. Please check the BCB Twitter feed for the Rockies lineup.

Today's Starting Pitchers

vs. Cubs

Dallas Beeler is a placeholder -- I can't imagine him taking more than just this start, hopefully the Cubs will have added a starter by next Sunday, the next time this turn comes up in the rotation. He's got one "okay" start and one rough one this year, and has never faced the Rockies or anyone on their roster.

Yohan Flande has had two different stints with the Rockies with seven appearances, all in relief. He made a start against the Cubs one year ago today -- look at that lineup! Far different than the one he'll face now. Flande had pretty bad numbers in Triple-A this year: six starts, 1.958 WHIP and a convenience-store (7.11) ERA.

Both teams could score in double figures in this one.

Today's game is on CSN Chicago Plus (check local cable/satellite listings).

SB Nation game preview

Please visit our SB Nation Rockies site Purple Row. If you do go there to interact with Rockies fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

The 2015 Game Thread procedure has changed a bit. Here's how it will work going forward.

You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
