Usually, in this space you will find something related to the upcoming game.
Today, once again, I feel the need to remind everyone here to be nice to each other. I don't think that's too much to ask. Cut the profanity, please (permitted in game threads, but not elsewhere), stop the namecalling. There's good Cubs baseball to talk about and all of us want the same thing -- for the Cubs to win.
Erik Peterson has been helping me with moderation and I greatly appreciate his efforts. But honestly? I'm tired of playing middle-school hall monitor.
Thanks for your help in making this an enjoyable place for everyone.
Now, let's get back to baseball.
Finally, here is your once-a-series reminder about SB Nation's partner daily fantasy game, FanDuel. If you want to participate, here's the link.
Here are today's particulars.
Fowler CF, Schwarber LF, Coghlan 3B, Rizzo 1B, Soler RF, Castro SS, Ross C, Arrieta P, Russell 2B
Chris Coghlan has played three innings at third base this year (this game) and last started there in 2013 (eight times). He played third 51 times in the Marlins' minor-league system. He was originally drafted as an infielder. I trust Joe Maddon on this one.
Parra LF, Lucroy C, Braun RF, Lind 1B, Gomez CF, Gennett 2B, Segura SS, Perez 3B, Nelson P
Today's Starting Pitchers
Despite a not-so-great start in his last outing, Jake Arrieta still has a 1.37 ERA over his last seven starts, covering 52⅔ innings, with just 10 walks, 52 strikeouts and only one home run over that span. His one start vs. the Brewers this year, May 2 at Wrigley Field, wasn't so great. I'll expect better from him tonight.
Jimmy Nelson has made two starts against the Cubs this year, one good, one not as much. Combined he's thrown 13⅔ innings in those starts and has allowed 11 hits and six earned runs, with 17 strikeouts. He's got a 2.08 ERA in four July starts and threw seven shutout innings against the Diamondbacks in his last start.
Haven't trotted this one out in a while, but clearly, could we be doomed?
Today's game is on CSN Chicago.
Please visit our SB Nation Brewers site Brew Crew Ball. If you do go there to interact with Brewers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
The 2015 Game Thread procedure has changed a bit. Here's how it will work going forward.
You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
