Fun fact: the Cubs have played five games against the Giants this year. No Giants starting pitcher has thrown more than five innings against them in any of the five games.
In fact, this is something the Cubs have been very good at this year -- getting the other team's starter out of the game early. Of the Cubs' 124 games, a starting pitcher has gone seven or more innings just 32 times -- and the Cubs have won 15 of those games.
For comparison, pitchers have thrown seven or more innings in a game 35 times against the Cardinals and 37 times against the Pirates.
Keep up the good work, Cubs hitters.
Here are today's particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Schwarber LF, Castro 2B, Coghlan RF, Rizzo 1B, Bryant 3B, Montero C, Denorfia CF, Hendricks P, Russell SS

Kyle Hendricks struggled through 5⅓ innings against the Giants August 8 at Wrigley Field, but the Cubs won the game anyway. Of the five hits he allowed, two were by Hunter Pence, who won't be in tonight's lineup. Brandon Belt homered off Hendricks. That's something we don't want repeated. Hendricks hasn't gotten out of the sixth inning in any of his last three starts and is supposedly working to fix the problem. Let's hope so.
Jake Peavy, similarly, struggled through five innings August 9 at Wrigley Field. He struck out six, and the Cubs made him throw 101 pitches. That's something this Cubs team is good at -- forcing long counts and getting starting pitchers out of the game early. Another one of those, please.
Today's game is on CSN Chicago.

The 2015 Game Thread procedure has changed a bit. Here's how it will work going forward.
You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
