The Cubs have won nine straight games against the Brewers and swept each of the last two series between the teams, two of seven sweeps of at least three games this season.
In the 19-season history of this rivalry (including 1997, when the Brewers were still an American League team), which the Cubs now lead 145-143, this is now the longest stretch of consecutive wins by either team. The previous best was eight straight Brewers wins over the Cubs in 2012, a year Milwaukee won 13 of 17 from the Cubs. The Cubs' best streak against Milwaukee before this year was six straight in 2003.
One more win makes it 10 straight for the Cubs over the Brew Crew, 12-4 over them for the year, and more importantly, three consecutive wins overall and 90 for the season.
Here are today's particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Fowler CF, Schwarber LF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Soler RF, Montero C, Baez 2B, Russell SS, Hendricks P

The Cubs' starting pitcher has now batted ninth in six of the last nine games, after it happened just once in the first 143 games this year.
Brewers lineup:
Gennett 2B, Schafer CF, Lind 1B, Davis LF, Santana RF, Segura SS, Sardinas 3B, Maldonado C, Davies P

Kyle Hendricks has had a rough go of it lately, even while the rest of his team has been on a winning tear. Since the All-Star break Hendricks has a 5.29 ERA in 12 starts covering 63 innings (barely over five per start) and has allowed eight home runs. However! This year against the Brewers he has an ERA of 0.73 in two starts, including this one August 1 at Miller Park, where he gave up just one run in seven innings. Hendricks also made two starts against the Brewers last year with a 1.38 ERA in 13 innings. Tonight would be a perfect time for him to repeat those performances and show that he's worthy of postseason starts.
Zach Davies was acquired by the Brewers from the Orioles for Gerardo Parra at the July 31 deadline. He has made four major-league starts. One was good, one mediocre and the other two bad. He has walked 12 in 21 innings, which should make the patient Cubs' hitters mouths water. The Cubs currently lead the major leagues in walks with 529. Davies has obviously never faced the Cubs or anyone on the current roster.
Today's game is on CSN Chicago.

The 2015 Game Thread procedure has changed a bit. Here's how it will work going forward.
You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
