There will also be a couple of names on the Hero podium that are missing, primarily because their heroics came when the game was already blown wide open. Fear not; they'll be in the Hickman voting.

Notice anything peculiar up there? That's right... there was only one negative WPA on the day. And then there was an eight-way tie at zero. Yes, eight players. And yes, I do like putting things in bold italics.
So, what's the answer for the Goat podium in a case like this? In a multiple-way tie for podium spots, the ruling goes to executive decision (also known as I pick the people I think are the best candidates for the particular podium). I just can't remember a time when I had to select from eight different players.
Oh, sorry, I forgot... eight. That's better.
Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.
THE THREE HEROES:
- Superhero - Addison Russell (.125). Have yourself a day, why don't you? Two big homers, three runs scored and three driven in... yeah, that's good stuff.
- Hero - Jon Lester (.087). Honestly, I think he was just cold from sitting on the bench for 30 minutes while the fifth inning played out.
- Sidekick - Kris Bryant (.080). Started the scoring off with one of the Cubs' eight walks on the day. What is it with the number eight today, anyway? Or is it eight?
THE THREE GOATS:
- Billy Goat - Austin Jackson (-.017). It's kind of a drag to make an out in the first inning and then not have any of the next four batters make one. And then the fifth batter after you makes an out, but still drives in a run in the process.
- Goat / Kid #1 - Tommy Hunter (.000). He gets one of the two spots based on giving up three hits and a homer in his inning of work, which would land him on the podium in most other games.
- Goat / Kid #2 - Jonathan Herrera (.000). I had to give him the other one (well, I chose to give him the other one) based on his 0-for-2 day with two whiffs.
