Wrigley Field Construction Update: December 27 to January 1

It's been a while -- we've got more photos from the ballpark.

BCB's Mike Bojanowski made several visits to Wrigley Field this week. Here are all the photos in one set, and his report:

The main gate is where the visible action is, new steel is being laid, mostly new horizontal girders attached to the verticals remaining from the demolition phase. Extensive internal scaffolding has been built. The torches have also been at work, they've been applied to the verticals for some purpose unknown to me. The work on the new media center continues, there are new excavations on Waveland within the restricted areas. The lower bowl concrete work apparent from the rooftop photos Al took earlier in the month has been extended to the left-field corner. Some uprooted chairs can be seen from Waveland.

The excavations on Waveland near the new media building are likely for all the cabling that will go from that building into the ballpark. The scaffolding and new work on the steel in the left-field corner (photos 17 and 29) is new, and interesting, as are the wooden forms now visible on the back of the left-field grandstand fence (photos 5, 6, 7 and 16).

David Sameshima was also at Wrigley Field on New Year's Day; we'll have a complete photoset from him here tomorrow.
