MLB Pipeline, the official prospect website of mlb.com, announced their Top 100 prospects for 2016 tonight on the MLB Network. Tonight there was more good news for Cubs fans as six prospects were listed among their Top 100. Those players were:
Ranked 28th: SS Gleyber Torres
Ranked 50th: C Willson Contreras
Ranked 76th: 2B/OF Ian Happ
Ranked 77th: RHP Duane Underwood
Ranked 86th: OF Albert Almora
Ranked 88th: OF Billy McKinney.
You can find the entire Top 100 listed here.
The Cubs also had six prospects listed last season. Last seasons prospect rankings were stronger on position as two (Kris Bryant and Addison Russell) were listed among the top five and two more (Almora and Jorge Soler) were listed in the top 50. Still, the fact that four of the top six prospects from last season could graduate to the majors and the Cubs still have six prospects on the list is a sign that the well of minor league talent is nowhere close to drying up.
If you're not following my countdown of the Top 20 prospects in the minors, you can find them all here. My series will conclude on Monday.
