American League Championship Series Game 1: Blue Jays vs. Indians, Friday 10/14, 7 p.m. CT

New, comments

The battle to win the A.L. pennant starts tonight in Cleveland.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

If the Cubs win the NLCS and get to the World Series, the winner of this set will be their opponent. Thus, I’d think many of us would be interested in following these games, especially since we’re likely not all that familiar with them.

There wasn’t as much of a spread in regular-season record among the A.L. playoff teams as among the N.L. teams. The Indians won just five more regular-season games (94) than the Blue Jays did (89), and they did win the season series from Toronto. Both teams swept their division series, and both have won six straight games (Cleveland won their last three regular-season games, and Toronto won their last two in the regular season, plus the wild-card game).

A fairly even matchup, I’d say. If I had to pick: Blue Jays in seven.

Probable pitchers: Marco Estrada (Blue Jays), Corey Kluber (Indians)

Today’s game is on TBS at 7 p.m. CT. Announcers: Ernie Johnson (play-by-play), Ron Darling & Cal Ripken, Jr. (analysts) with Sam Ryan (reporter). Gameday game preview
