Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

The Ramirez Catalyst of NLCS Game 1: With two out, the bases loaded, and an 0-2 count in the bottom of the eighth, Miguel Montero unloads on a Joe Blanton slider and sends it deep into the bleachers in right field for a massive pinch-hit grand slam to put the Cubs ahead 7-3. WPA impact: +.355.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Miguel Montero (.355). Fun Facts: In the regular season, Montero had 23 plate appearances that ended after an 0-2 count. He was 1-for-22 in those plate appearances (he was hit by a pitch in the other one). In his entire career, he'd only had five homers on an 0-2 count in 327 chances coming into Saturday night.
  • Hero - Jon Lester (.219). His stat line for the night looked good, but it certainly had a lot of help from the defense behind him including two spectacular catches by Dexter Fowler.
  • Sidekick - Kris Bryant (.124). Got the Cubs started on the right foot in the first with a run-scoring double off of the wall in left.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Pedro Strop (-.251). Came into the eighth and couldn't retire either of the two batters that he faced, giving up a walk and a tough-luck infield single to third on a missed force play by Bryant.
  • Goat - Addison Russell (-.144). Still trying to fight his way out of his postseason slump; he had four opportunities in this game with a runner on and couldn't get anything going, with the most damaging play being a grounder to third in the eighth with Ben Zobrist on second.
  • Kid - Anthony Rizzo (-.072). Also had a rough night at the plate, going 0-for-5, but didn't have many chances that were too game-changing.
