Cubs Heroes and Goats: World Series Game 4

New, 14 comments

It was an equal-opportunity loss in Game 4 as two Cubs shared the top spot of the Goat podium in the 7-2 defeat on Saturday night.

"If this keeps up, we're gonna both end up on the podium. And not the good one, either."

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

The Gonzalez Mishap of World Series Game 4: With two on and two out in the top of the second, Corey Kluber hits a dribbler down the third-base line that Kris Bryant barehands, but the throw to first base is just out of the reach of Anthony Rizzo, allowing Lonnie Chisenhall to score from second base and put the Indians ahead 2-1. WPA impact: -.116.

THE THREE HEROES: Get two hits, earn a podium spot!

  • Superhero - Anthony Rizzo (.182). His two hits count a quite a bit more than the other two Cubs with two hits since his first one drove in the game's first run.
  • Hero - Jason Heyward (.033). Not as flashy as Rizzo's two hits as he got one just past Jason Kipnis and another one that ate up Francisco Lindor at short.
  • Sidekick - Dexter Fowler (.032). His homer would have been worth a lot more had the Indians' lead not been six runs at the time that he hit it.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat / Goat #1 (tie) - John Lackey (-.123 / -.149). It wasn't a bad outing, but the timing of events -- and some critical defensive miscues behind him -- made it enough for him to end up sharing the top step.
  • Billy Goat / Goat #2 (tie) - Ben Zobrist (-.123). The hot hitting from Zobrist to start the World Series took a turn the other direction as he missed out on three chances with runners on base in Game 4, including two with a runner on second.
  • Kid - Willson Contreras (-.099). Just couldn't find the answer on Saturday night, striking out three times, including twice with a runner on second.
