BCB's David Sameshima wasn't lucky enough to score a ticket to Game 1 of the NLDS, but he came to the area anyway to soak up the atmosphere. He hung out on the corner where the Wrigley ballhawks sit, and sent me this report.I arrived outside of Wrigley Field just as the teams were being introduced on the field. Being a postseason game, most of the crowd arrived early. The streets and sidewalks weren't as packed as they usually are just before the start of the game.
There was a small crowd on Waveland Avenue across from Gate K. There is just a sliver of a view of the right field video board, but it is the only view into the ballpark, so that's where folks were standing.
I arrived at the ballhawk corner just as the national anthem started. Many were spread out, over Waveland, but three lined up for the anthem.
As you know, it was quiet as far as balls going out of the ballpark. As you can see in my photos, there is always stuff going on outside to keep them entertained.
I didn't even know anyone was injured on the street corner across from us. All of a sudden I hear the fire engine approaching, and stop in front of us. It was only then that I saw a woman sitting on the sidewalk. The firemen were evaluating her, and then must have requested the paramedics. I believe she had just fallen, and been injured.
