If it’s November (and these days, the World Series is over), it must be awards season. The Silver Slugger Awards, presented by Louisville Slugger, are given out to the best hitter at each position in each league. Today, two Chicago Cubs players, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta, took home the NL Silver Slugger Awards for their respective positions.

Rizzo adds the Silver Slugger Award as the best hitting first baseman in the league to his Gold Glove as the best fielding first baseman in the NL. Rizzo hit .292/.385/.544 with 32 home runs and 43 doubles. Rizzo’s 109 RBI was second in the NL, only behind third base Silver Slugger winner Nolan Arenado.

Arrieta took home the award for National League pitchers by hitting .262/.304/.415 with two home runs in 70 trips to the plate. That doesn’t include his home run off of Madison Bumgarner in game three of the NL Division Series.

It is the first Silver Slugger Award for both players. Rizzo and Arrieta are the first Cubs to win a Silver Slugger Award since Aramis Ramirez in 2011. Arrieta is the first Cubs pitcher to win since Carlos Zambrano in 2009.
