Though we are still in the afterglow of the Cubs’ World Series win, it’s time to start planning for spring training 2017. You’ll note the schedule starts a week or so earlier than in 2016, due to the World Baseball Classic also occurring next spring. The first game scheduled for February 25 means pitchers and catchers should report to Mesa about two weeks earlier, so around February 10 (though no official date has been released yet for pitchers & catchers reporting). That’s just 81 days from now!
Here is the schedule for the 37 Cubs spring games, including the annual trip to Las Vegas, two games against WBC teams and a pair of games against the Astros in Houston before the Cubs travel to St. Louis for the season opener April 2.
Because of the WBC, all teams get two off days in March 2017 instead of the usual one. Home games at Sloan Park in boldface, split squads as indicated. All games at 2:05 CT through 3/11, then at 3:05 CT, unless otherwise marked. You’ll note the Cubs have two home night games this spring, March 15 and March 19, as well as two other night games before they leave the Phoenix area.
There will be three Cubs/Indians games next spring, including the second game of the Cactus League season on February 26, which ought to create great interest in the World Series rematch.
Individual game tickets for the 2017 Chicago Cubs home spring training games at Sloan Park will go on sale Saturday, January 7 at 11 a.m. CT at the Sloan Park ticket office, on www.cubs.com or by calling 1-800-THE-CUBS.
