There will be plenty of fun and interesting giveaways at Wrigley Field this season, as the Cubs commemorate the 100th anniversary of their first year at the ballpark, then still known as Weeghman Park. (It was changed to "Cubs Park" in 1920 and "Wrigley Field" in 1926.)
The team will wear a commemorative patch featuring a version of the team’s 1916 logo in modern colors on home uniforms throughout the 2016 season. The logo will also be featured on base jewels and as a stamp on baseballs used during 2016 home games. On Wednesday, July 6, vs. the Cincinnati Reds, both teams will wear 1916 throwback uniforms and the Cubs will give away up to 30,000 replica throwback jerseys.
In addition to the Century of Cubs at Wrigley Field celebration, there are other cool collectible-type giveaways including a Ron Santo Replica Statue, Ryne Sandberg Retired Number Flag and bobbleheads featuring Jake Arrieta, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber and Joe Maddon.
"Cubs fans look forward to a number of different promotions each season, and we love to see how excited everyone gets when they enter the ballpark and receive that coveted item," said Alison Miller, senior director of marketing, Chicago Cubs. "We’re looking forward to some unique additions to our calendar this year, such as bobbleheads commemorating memorable plays like Anthony Rizzo’s tarp catch last season, or our trifecta of post-season award winners. Fans will want to select their tickets and arrive to Wrigley Field early to ensure they can participate."
Unfortunately, I don't have an image of the Rizzo tarp catch bobblehead to share with you (and there's also a "Kyle Schwarber Home Run Bobblehead," which ought to be cool), but here's the complete promo schedule so you can plan your visits to the ballpark if you want one of those, or any of the other giveaways (click to embiggen):
