SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- There are two things to keep an eye on before and during Friday's game.
Before (and during) is the Cubs Wives charity sale that will be held at Sloan Park. They'll be auctioning the Kyle Schwarber windshield, as well as selling baseballs, jerseys and other items to benefit Cubs Charities.
During the game, it will be worth watching Jon Lester in the field. Can he hold runners on? Can he field his position? I believe these things are non-trivial. We'll see if there's any improvement from the last start.
Here are today's particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Zobrist 2B, Heyward CF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Schwarber LF, Soler RF, Ross C, Kawasaki SS, Lester P
Tommy La Stella is on today's substitute list. If he plays that would be his first action in a MLB spring game since March 7.
Brewers lineup:
Broxton CF, Hill 3B, Lucroy C, Santana RF, Carter 1B, Walsh 2B, Flores LF, Rivera SS, Nelson P
Jon Lester starts for the Cubs. Also on the Cubs pitching list today: Clayton Richard, Pedro Strop, Hector Rondon and Justin Grimm. Grimm threw an inning Thursday and this would be the first time he would go on back-to-back days this spring.
Jimmy Nelson gets the call for the Brewers.
Today's game is on cubs.com with Mick Gillispie. It will also be televised on CSN Chicago with Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies, and on MLB.tv (no blackouts) if you have a subscription.
Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
Please visit our SB Nation Brewers site Brew Crew Ball. If you do go there to interact with Brewers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.
For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 3 p.m. CT and 4:30 p.m. CT.
These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
