SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- With a little over a week left before Opening Night, the Cubs announced nine roster cuts Friday morning:
Almora, Andreoli, Gomes,Guzman, Machi, Murton, Negron, Perez and Williams cut.#Cubs camp roster now 36
— Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) March 25, 2016
None of these should be any surprise to you. It's too bad that Matt Murton didn't make it back in his attempted comeback from playing in Japan, but after he had an emergency appendectomy and played in only a couple of games, he was the longest of longshots.
Many of the rest of these players will likely be core parts of the roster at Triple-A Iowa this year and available in case of injuries. None of these players is on the 40-man roster, so officially they will be "reassigned to minor-league camp."
We do have some further information about one of the nine:
P Ryan Williams among those sent down though he's going to Vegas next week w team. He'll have a final diary entry this weekend.

These cuts leave the Cubs' spring roster at 36 going into the final week of camp. Roster breakdown: 19 pitchers (two non-roster invitees and one on the disabled list), four catchers (one non-roster invitee), eight infielders (one non-roster invitee) and five outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
