This has got to be the weirdest offseason ever. Today's Bullets are brought to you by the Mrs. Olsen's fourth grade class. They found it hilarious.
- Matt Harvey had to leave Mets training camp because of blood clots in bladder. While potentially serious, it seems like Harvey will be OK and will make his Opening Day start. And apparently, this was caused because Harvey tried to hold it too long. So the next time you're on a road trip and your kids tell you they have to stop, listen to them. Otherwise they could end up pitching for the Mets.
- The always-classy New York Post calls Harvey the Mets M-V-Pee. And of course, I'm classy for repeating it.
- Michael O'Keefe talks to a urologist who said that this does happen to people who don't relieve themselves often enough, although it's usually not serious. Also, Seinfeld jokes.
- In more news about Mets pitchers, the Royals reportedly still haven't forgotten Noah Syndergaard's brushback pitch in the World Series and intend to retaliate.
- Dieter Kurtenbach says that the Royals search for vengeance is part of baseball's problems with attracting millenials. No, I don't get that point either. I mean, I agree that seeking retribution is stupid, but I think it's a real stretch to say that it's one of the causes of baseball's alleged generation gap.
- In any case, the Royals deny the report and say it's all a part of the New York media making stuff up. So just forget the whole thing.
- Red Sox manager John Farrell said $72.5 million outfielder Rusney Castillo is going to be the fifth outfielder. Scott Lauber officially declares Castillo a bust.
- Dave Cameron tries to find a team that might take Castillo off the Red Sox hands.
- Another foreign free agent who has been disappointing so far is the Orioles Hyun Soo Kim, although the Orioles only paid about 10% as much for him. Kim has agreed to go down to the minor leagues, and Mark Brown of Camden Chat explains what this all means. Kim's contract with the Orioles said he could not be sent to the minors without his permission.
- CC Sabathia is going to start the season in the Yankees rotation, if only because there aren't better options, writes Wallace Matthews.
- Jeff Francoeur made the Braves Opening Day roster! Craig Calcaterra promises that he'll buy a Francoeur Braves jersey. Although he'd probably prefer one that said "Barves."
- You know who didn't make the Braves Opening Day roster? Nick Swisher. The Braves released Swisher on Monday.
- Pitcher Philip Humber has retired after not making the Padres opening day roster.
- The Rangers acquired catcher Bryan Holaday from the Tigers.
- Scott Boeck looks at some Spring Training position battles that are going down to the wire.
- The Blue Jays signed Jesus Montero. Tim Healy points out that the three Blue Jays' first basemen show how baseball prospects can still develop in unexpected ways and that predicting them is an inexact science.
- MLB and Apple announced a deal yesterday in which all teams will have iPads in which managers and players will be able to look at stats and video in the dugouts during games.
- Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez will be able to look up RBI totals on his iPad, which he thinks is a really important number. I wonder if Don Mattingly will be able to watch cat videos during Marlins games.
- Mike Bauman points out that there's no relationship between spring training standings and the standings at the end of the season.
- Ken Rosenthal explores how Pirates pitching coach Ray Searage has earned a reputation for salvaging the careers of broken pitchers.
- Jerry Crasnick says a new wave of top young shortstops are entering the game, unlike anything we've seen since the nineties. Yes, Addy is mentioned.
- Crasnick also writes that the Twins are counting on Miguel Sano and Byung Ho Park a lot this season.
- Tracy Ringolsby believes that the Diamondbacks have what it takes to win the NL West this season.
- Will Leitch lists five teams he thinks will be disappointing this year. The Diamondbacks are on his list.
- Rob Neyer has a history of female scouts in baseball. It's a short list, although maybe a little longer than you might expect and likely a story you haven't heard before.
- Bill Shaikin remembers the famous Spring Training holdout of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale, 50 years ago this year.
- The Dodgers have made a new offer to try to get SportsNet LA carried by DirecTV and others, but so far, there's been no progress in negotiations. So the Dodgers blackout will enter year 3.
- Mike Oz got a chance to play MLB 16: The Show against major leaguers. He's convinced Anthony Rizzo took it easy on him. For example, Rizzo started Kyle Hendricks in their game instead of Jake Arrieta.
- Oz also found some unopened 1991 baseball cards in his garage and decided to open some of them with major leaguers. First he opened some with Rajai Davis and then he met up with noted card collector Brad Ziegler and Tyler Clippard. Neat series.
- And finally, we just can't get away from potty humor today. Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick posted a photo showing that one Astros star gets his very own urinal.
And tomorrow will be a better day than today, Buster.
