Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 5

Kyle Hendricks makes it four-out-of-five for the starting rotation at the top of the Hero podium with another strong outing on Saturday night.

Today's chart looks pretty boring, but sometimes a boring but effective chart is good.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Kyle Hendricks (.171). Cruised through just short of seven innings of work, including four 1-2-3 frames.
  • Hero - Adam Warren (.141). Becomes the first new Cub of the season to not start his H & G career on the Goat podium.
  • Sidekick - Ben Zobrist (.130). Also makes his first Hero appearance as a Cub thanks to reaching base four times in five plate appearances.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Addison Russell (-.067). Couldn't get anything going at the plate, but he did manage to give away another bat as a souvenir.
  • Goat - Jorge Soler (-.033). His "almost-a-single" in the first -- the play was ruled an error by Brandon Drury -- was quickly overtaken by his final three plate appearances on the day, including two swinging strikeouts.
  • Kid - Dexter Fowler (-.025). Some days you go 1-for-4 with a walk and end up on the Goat podium for it.  This was one of those days.
