Songs To Cheer Cubs Players By

BCB's Danny Rockett borrows a cheering idea from Japan.

I've never been to Japan, but I've been told that baseball players there all have their own fight songs for when they come to bat.

So I thought it would be a fun exercise to come up with songs Cubs fans can sing for our beloved players. My prerequisites for the songs are that they have to already be known by most people or easily learnable and short. So warm up that voice for Opening Day at Wrigley! I'll be in the bleachers teaching these songs to the Cubs fan masses!

Here's what I came up with, but I'm open to suggestions if you have a better idea! (leave in comments)

Kyle Schwarber: "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies

Lyrics: "Schwarber! Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo! Oh Kylie Kylie! Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo!" (repeat)

Jason Heyward: "Hey Jude" by The Beatles (and already parodied by me)

Lyrics: "Na na na na na na na, na na na na Heyward!" (repeat)

Anthony Rizzo: "The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)" by Harry Belefonte

Lyrics: "Rizzo! Rizzo! Rizzo swings cause he wants to come home!"

Dexter Fowler: "Power to the People" by John Lennon

Lyrics: "Fowler's gonna beat ya! Fowler's gonna beat ya! Fowler's gonna beat ya! Fowler's gonna beat ya! Right on!

Miguel Montero: "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan. This ones a little longer.

Lyrics: "I'm just mad about Miggy, he's just mad about me. I'm just mad about Miggy, he's just mad about me. He's called Miguel Montero! That's right stitch!"

David Ross" "Panama" by Van Halen

Lyrics: David Ross! David Ro-oss!! David Ross! David Ro-oh-oh-oh oh-oss! David Ross!!

Addison Russell: "The Hustle" by Van McCoy

Lyrics: (while disco dancing) "Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do the Russell"

Ben Zobrist: "Kiss on My List" by Hall and Oates

Lyrics: "Because Zobrist Zobrist is on my list. Because Zobrist Zobrist is on my list. Because Zobrist is on my list!"

Kris Bryant: "Batman TV Theme Song"

Lyrics: "Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana, Bryant! Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana, Bryant! Bryant! Bryant Bryant!"

Here are a few that mix up cultures brilliantly!

Jorge Soler"Wild Rover" (Irish Traditional)

Lyrics: (chorus) "And it's Jorge Soler! Jorge Soler will score! He can play! Jorge Soler! Jorge Soler will score!"

Javier Baez: "Hava Nagila" (Jewish traditional)

Lyrics: (while clapping) "Javy Nagila! Javy Nagila! Javy Nagila! Ra na na na!" (repeat)

A Braves fan originally wrote this hilarious song parody. But I think we should steal it!

Tommy La Stella"Spanish Flea" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass

Lyrics: Tommy LaStella (a bunch of times) (*see hilarious song parody link above)

Matt Szczur: "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright

Lyrics: "Ohhhh... Matt Szczur I believe you can hit home runs tonight!" (repeat)

Jake Arrieta"Davy Crockett Theme Song" (which I've already parodied)

Lyrics: "Arri! Arrieta! Jake and his kick a$$ beard!!!"

John Lackey"Happy and You Know It"

Lyrics: "If you're Lackey and you know it, clap your hands! (clap clap) If you're Lackey and you know it, clap your hands! (clap clap)  If you're Lackey and you know it, and your batters gonna blow it! If you're Lackey and you know it, clap your hands!"

Hector Rondon: "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany

Lyrics: "It's Hector Rondon now! You better watch out when you take the mound!" (repeat)

Travis Wood"I Feel Good" by James Brown

Lyrics: "Travis Wood! He's gonna be good! Travis Wood! He's gonna be good! So good! T. Wood! Strike out you!!"

That's all I got folks! But I need more! Notable exceptions are Jon Lester, (who I parodied The Beatles "Yesterday" for, but it's too short), Jason Hammel, Kyle Hendricks, and most of the bullpen. I've thought of a few tunes for them, but none of the tunes are popular, or sing-a-longable to be feasible.

Please leave your song ideas in the comments and let's get singing at Wrigley Field this summer!!
