Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 4

The bullpen takes the blow on Friday night, losing a 2-1 lead late in the game and earning the top two spots on the Goat podium in the process.

It can't always be the Cubs that get the Gatorade shower.

The worst part about not watching the game live -- which was the case last night -- is that you can see the little bar that shows the amount of time remaining in the recording, and when it gets to the bottom of the ninth and the game is still tied... well, you pretty much get that sinking feeling that the game didn't end well.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Jason Hammel (.237). Another very effective outing from the rotation with Hammel pitching six strong innings and only giving up one run courtesy of a run-scoring single by Paul Goldschmidt.
  • Hero - Dexter Fowler (.117). Wins the table-setter podium spot with his single, double, and walk while not driving in a run.
  • Sidekick - Justin Grimm (.109). Some games, pitching a perfect seventh will get you a spot on the podium.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Trevor Cahill (-.419). Victimized in part by a seeing-eyed single from Welington Castillo, but the game-winner from Yasmany Tomas was pretty much on him.
  • Goat - Pedro Strop (-.193). Also got chewed up by the buzzsaw that was Paul Goldschmidt.
  • Kid - Anthony Rizzo (-.173). In case you didn't get the scoring on that play in the fifth, it was 3-2-5-2-6-9. Followed by the final spot on the Goats.
